The Opus One brand was founded by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, the most prominent member of the famous winemaking family in Europe, and Robert Mondavi, the legendary American New World winemaker.
The Opus One estate vineyards, consisting of 4 plots, are situated in the western part of the famous Oakville AVA. Two plots, totalling 100 acres, are part of the famous To Kalon vineyard. They are complemented by 70 acres of Ballestra and River plots that circle the winery. The vineyards use hand harvesting and other traditional approaches where they work best.
